What It Means to Become Parents

On a Hike in California

To us, being parents means being there for our child, guiding and supporting them as they learn and grow, and showing them so much love every single day. We can't wait to get to know our child, to see who they are, what brings them joy, and what makes them special. We have loved supporting Caleb's siblings as they've grown up, helping them figure out how to pursue the things they want to do in life, and look forward to doing the same with our own child.

We also look forward to sharing our life with a child. Caleb is excited about all the new toys he'll get to play with alongside a child, and he can't wait to build them a treehouse or obstacle course to enjoy together. Anne is looking forward to introducing a child to her vegetable garden, showing them how to grow things, and experiencing with them the joy of harvesting and eating fresh food. We know we'll have so much fun singing along to music with a child, playing video games with them, exploring museums and hiking trails together, and so much more. We try to enjoy each day of our lives, and can't wait to share our days with a child!

Our Leisure Time

First Spinach Harvest of the Season

Anne loves her vegetable garden and enjoys the process of planning, planting, and maintaining the garden, and especially harvesting and eating what she has grown. She's an avid reader and especially likes science fiction, fantasy, and romance. She has played piano for most of her life and loves playing, learning about, and listening to music.

Caleb loves to build things and can often be found fabricating something for his workshop or our home. He's interested in software and automation and enjoys tinkering with our home server or setting up an automated system to make life around the house easier. He also has a keen interest in cars and enjoys working on them.

Caleb Cooking Some Chicken & Dumplings

Together, we share a deep love of cooking and are constantly preparing healthy and delicious meals, learning new techniques and cuisines, and making food for our friends and family. You can find us in the kitchen most evenings, singing along to music, chatting about our days, and cooking a meal together. We have also enjoyed doing many projects around our home, renovating it and turning it into our ideal space for living and entertaining. We love to do things ourselves, learn something new, and enjoy the satisfaction of completing a project together. When we want to relax, we enjoy playing video games together, whether it's a Mario Kart match or cheering each other on while we play a virtual reality game.

Cultural Diversity

We're excited about the idea of our family being a multicultural one, and are fully committed to supporting our child in exploring their cultural background! We're lucky to live in an area with a lot of racial and cultural diversity, where our child will be able to be in community with people from many different backgrounds. We intend to participate in events and activities that will allow our child to see and meet people who share their background, and our child will attend very diverse schools.

As our child grows, we'll ask them what sorts of activities, events, and organizations they're interested in exploring, and support them in pursuing those things. We'll connect them with role models and mentors who share their background. We know that it is our job to educate ourselves so we can support our child, but that we may never fully understand their background the way that someone who shares it can. We also look forward to joining a local group for adoptees and adoptive parents, so our child can connect with other adoptees, and we can learn from other adoptive parents.

We'll also explore our child's cultural background together through music, books, movies, food, and more. In particular, we'll make sure to read books and listen to music written by people who share our child's background, and watch shows and movies with main characters who look like our child. We'll look for opportunities to talk openly about our child's cultural background in everyday life.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a beautiful neighborhood that is just ten minutes from the downtown area of our city in North Carolina. There's always something fun to do in our vibrant and welcoming city, and we can't wait to one day take our child to the Farmer's Market and the Life and Science Museum.

Although it's close to everything, our quiet neighborhood is right beside preserved forests and is home to lots of wildlife, including families of deer that we enjoy watching. We love taking walks around our neighborhood and saying hi to the other families who live here, or hiking on one of the many forest trails near our house.

We've poured a lot of love into our three-bedroom house, working hard to renovate it over the past few years and turn it into a comfortable, functional, and welcoming space. We love hosting friends and family, either to congregate in our kitchen and cook together, or to watch a movie on our big, comfy couch. We spend a lot of time in our large, wooded backyard as well, having friends over to roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire, working in our vegetable garden, walking down to the fruit trees, or relaxing in rocking chairs on the deck.

Our Extended Families

With Two of Caleb's Sisters

Caleb is the oldest of seven children, and we love to talk to them and see them as much as possible. It's always a ton of fun when they get together, sharing funny stories about their childhood, playing video games, or going on an outdoor adventure. We always have a blast when we spend time together, and we keep up with his siblings who live elsewhere by talking on the phone or Facetime often.

With Anne's Family

Caleb's sister Chloe lives very close to us and is a big part of our lives. She comes over at least once a week, and we love to cook meals together, work on a project around the house, or just sit outside and talk about our lives. Chloe is always willing to lend a hand and is an endless source of hilarious jokes and stories, and we know she will be an incredible aunt to a child who joins our family!

We are lucky to live close to Anne's parents and her brother and his family. Anne's family enjoys cookouts, celebrating holidays together, and making traditional Slovak food like pierogi. We especially love getting to see our niece, Ella, very often—we love playing together, especially building Lego sets! She will be thrilled to have a little cousin and will be a big part of their life. Anne's parents have been incredibly loving and supportive grandparents to Ella, and they will be so delighted to have another grandchild to cherish (and spoil, just a little!)

From Us to You

Thank you, so much, for taking the time to read our profile and get to know us a little. We know that this is an incredibly difficult decision and we're grateful to even be considered for your adoption plan.

Building and nurturing our little family of two has been one of the greatest joys of our lives. We have a great deal of love and respect for one another and we work together every day to make each other and our relationship stronger. We've taken time to grow our careers and have built a wonderful home together. Now, we are ready and excited to welcome a child into our family. A child growing up with us will be in a safe and stable environment, and we hope to show them through our marriage and actions what it means to be a committed and loving member of a family. They will also grow up in a fun and enriching environment, and we will provide them with many interesting experiences and ensure they receive a high-quality education. Most importantly, they will grow up in a loving and uplifting environment, and we will tell them and show them every day how much they are loved and valued.

We want you to know that adoption has always been our first choice. Since we became a couple 10 years ago, we have been talking about how we want to build our family through adoption. We recognize that adoption means loss and grief, but it also means a beautiful connection between families who choose to forge and maintain that connection for the sake of a child. Having a biological child has never been important to us, and we simply can't wait to welcome a child into our family and love them fiercely and unconditionally every day of their life. We're so excited to find out who that child is, to get to know them as an individual, to cherish their unique qualities, and to help them grow into the person they are meant to be.

For us, open adoption is a huge priority. We understand how important it can be for everyone involved in the adoption and are completely ready to dedicate ourselves to this relationship. If we bring your child into our family, we will also bring you into our family. We truly care about your thoughts, feelings, and wellbeing, both during the adoption process and afterward, on a long-term basis. We want to support you in any way that we can during this difficult time, and for you to know that your voice matters to us. We will be excited to send you letters and pictures, and, if you want, to exchange emails, talk on the phone or video calls, and visit every year. We want to find a balance that works for you, and maintain open and honest communication throughout the years.

A part of open adoption that really matters to us is that your child will know you. We will tell them all about you and your family, regularly and from the very beginning, and they will be able to see and talk to you if that's something you're open to. We hope that, through these things, your child will understand why they were placed for adoption, and know how deeply you loved them and continue to love them. We promise to hold you in the highest esteem and to always speak honestly and positively about this child's adoption.

No matter what you choose, we are wishing you all the best in your journey, and are immensely grateful for your consideration. If you do choose us for your adoption plan, we will be ready to support you, and beyond excited to meet your child and expand our family!
