Matt & Heather
We like to think of ourselves as fun loving, adventurous, intelligent, responsible and funny. And, unless our family and friends have been lying to us, we are. We are nerds at heart, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Our adventures are big and small. Sometimes just taking our dog Obi to the park or sometimes driving through Death Valley to see California and camping. We would love your help growing our family.
Addressing Cultural Diversity
Cultural diversity has always been an important and meaningful part of our lives, and it’s something we deeply value. Matt grew up in northern New Mexico, where Native American and Mexican American traditions are woven into everyday life. Some of his favorite childhood memories include visiting the Jemez Pueblo during feast days, watching the traditional dances, and then joining the community for shared meals. Those gatherings were open to everyone, and they taught him from a young age that culture is something to be celebrated, respected, and experienced together. Food, especially, has always been a powerful connection to the people and traditions that shaped him.
Our family is also beautifully blended in many ways. Matt’s grandfather’s second wife is African American, and through her, our extended family grew even more diverse. Holidays and family events often bring together people from different backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives, creating an environment where acceptance, curiosity, and understanding come naturally.
Growing up in such a multicultural environment has shaped our values and the way we see the world. We believe that children thrive when they are surrounded by diversity—when they learn early on that people may come from different places or traditions, but love, kindness, and family are universal.
Pets

Animals have always been an important part of our lives, and we believe they bring so much love, joy, and learning into a home. Right now, we share our lives with one dog—Obi, our beautiful, smart, and incredibly affectionate border collie. He is gentle, friendly, and loves being around people. At one point, our home was filled with even more furry family members, including two dogs and two cats, and we loved the energy and companionship they brought.

Both of us grew up in homes where animals were part of everyday life. Heather had pugs, and Matt grew up with Rottweilers, so caring for pets has always felt natural to us. Matt’s mom, Andrea, also raised chickens, ducks, turkeys, and always had a horse, which meant he spent a lot of time around animals of all kinds. Those experiences taught him responsibility, empathy, and respect for living things.
We believe that having pets is a wonderful way for children to learn patience, kindness, and compassion. Animals have a special way of helping kids understand the world and themselves. We look forward to raising a child in a home where they can experience that same unconditional love, curiosity, and connection with animals.
Discussing Adoption
We want our child to grow up knowing that their adoption story is rooted in love. From the very beginning, we will tell them that they are cherished beyond words and that families are created in many beautiful ways. Whether a child joins a family through birth or adoption, the love, commitment, and bond are the same.
We will share with them that their birth mother made her decision out of deep care, not a lack of love. She wanted the very best for her child, and she felt a meaningful connection with us—just as we felt with her. Throughout their childhood, we will keep an open line of communication with her, honoring whatever level of contact feels healthy and appropriate for everyone involved.
When our child is ready, and if they want to, we will support them in meeting their birth mother. We believe in honesty, openness, and giving them the space to understand their story at their own pace.
Most importantly, we will always make sure they know this: they are our child, fully and forever, and our love for them is unconditional.

Our Extended Families

Family is at the heart of our lives, and we feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by a large, supportive network. Matt’s father and stepmother live in a beautiful cabin on several acres in South Fork, Colorado, where visits are filled with fresh air, wildlife, and peaceful mountain views. The rest of Matt’s family is spread across New Mexico and Minnesota, giving us wonderful opportunities to travel and stay connected.

Heather’s family is rooted right here in our neighborhood. Her father and brother live just a mile away, and several other relatives are within walking distance. Holidays often turn into joyful gatherings where everyone comes together to share food, laughter, and stories. Heather also has aunts and cousins in the Las Vegas Valley and New Jersey, keeping our family ties strong from coast to coast.
Traditions are important to us, and one of our favorites is meeting at Uncle John’s house every Thanksgiving weekend to turn on the Christmas lights. Our celebrations always include great food, lively board games, and plenty of laughter.
We’re also fortunate to have a close group of friends we’ve known for more than twenty years. Summer days spent relaxing in Barb and Teri’s pool are some of our happiest memories. Our friends and family are excited to welcome a child into this circle of love and support.
Our House and Neighborhood

We live in a wonderful neighborhood in south Las Vegas, surrounded by friendly neighbors and many families with children. On most afternoons you can hear kids laughing and playing outside, which brings a real sense of community and warmth to our street. Our home has five bedrooms and three bathrooms, giving us plenty of space to grow as a family. Downstairs, we have a large, comfortable living room where we relax together, a separate dining room for family meals, and a guest room with its own bathroom for visiting relatives.
Upstairs, we have four bedrooms. One is set up as a small home gym, another as an office, and the baby’s room will be right next to our primary bedroom—something we’re very excited about. Our backyard is one of our favorite places. It’s filled with trees, has lots of room for our dog Obi to run and play, and because it faces north, it stays shaded and cooler during the summer.
We’re lucky to have two great parks within walking distance. One is large, with playgrounds, sports fields, and plenty of open space. The other—Obi’s favorite—is smaller, tucked into a quiet neighborhood, and has a fun playground and water features for kids. Living here gives us easy access to family‑friendly activities, and we can’t wait to share these experiences with a child.
From Us to You

We’ve thought a lot about what we would want to say to you, and the truth is, there’s no perfect way to capture the respect and admiration we feel for the strength it takes to consider adoption. What we can offer is honesty, warmth, and a glimpse into the life your child would be welcomed into a life filled with love, stability, and a community ready to embrace them. Thank you for taking the time to consider us.
We decided on adoption due to our infertility issues. It was tough to overcome but we worked on it together and separately. When challenges come up, we come together to work on it and will do the same with the child. If you choose us, your child will be welcomed into a home filled with laughter, support, and unconditional love. We want to teach confidence, a thirst for knowledge, kindness and compassion. They will grow up surrounded by family, friends, traditions, and a community that celebrates who they are.
Our home is in a friendly neighborhood on a quiet street in south Las Vegas, the kind of place where kids play outside after school and neighbors’ wave from their driveways. It’s a home we picked with intention: five bedrooms, plenty of space to grow, and a cozy living room where we unwind together at the end of the day. The baby’s room will be right next to ours, something that fills us with excitement every time we walk past the doorway. Our backyard is shaded and full of trees, a peaceful place where our tri-pawed dog Obi, our affectionate, gentle border collie, loves to run and explore. Obi is playful, and wonderful with kids, he will be a loyal companion to the child who joins our family.
We love to explore and go on adventures. Growing up spending, loads of time outside helped us become the people we are. We continue to camp, hike and spend time outside. We are excited to share our favorite places, like Kernville in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
We also have a circle of friends who have been part of our lives for more than twenty years. They’re the kind of friends who feel like family, the ones who show up for birthdays, barbecues, and the little everyday moments that matter. Summer afternoons spent lounging in the pool are some of our favorite memories, and we can already picture a child splashing alongside us.
Our extended family is beautifully blended, and acceptance has always been a natural part of life. Our cousin adopted a little girl seven years ago. We want to raise a child who understands that love comes in many forms and that every culture adds something valuable to the world. Learning about other cultures is important to raise a well-rounded person.
Most importantly, we want you to know how we will talk to your baby about their adoption. They will grow up knowing that their story began with love, yours and ours. We will tell them that their birth mother made a thoughtful, caring decision because she wanted the very best for them. We will honor whatever level of openness feels right for you, and as they grow, we will support them in understanding their story at their own pace. When they are ready, and if you are too, we will help them connect with you.
If you select us, we hope you know there will be broccoli and ice cream. There will be dancing in the living room and homework on the dining room table. There will be jumping on the bed and strict bedtime. Running at the park and skinned knees. Tears and hugs. Laughs and so much love.
With warmth and respect,
Matt & Heather
